Magnetic filters are not a relatively new concept in protecting your boiler, they have been around for many years now and have prolonged the lives of the boilers they have been on so far.
A magnetic filter works by catching all of the debris that that corrodes from the inside of your radiators, it is a small ovular device that has a magnet inside that catches anything magnetic that tries to go into your boiler.

All that happens inside a filter is that the central heating water enters through one side of the filter, and passes over a magnet inside of a housing, the magnet pulls the magnetic debris inside the water towards it, pulling it onto the housing, the debris then stays inside of the filter stopping it from going into your boiler, if you didn’t have a magnetic filter then the debris would go into your boiler and clog up your heat exchanger, meaning that eventually, it will stop letting water pass meaning that your central heating will stop and your heat exchanger will need replacing which over time, will cost more than a magnetic filter, so the cost of a magnetic filter, compare to a new central heating heat exchanger, is worth it in the long run.
